Life Insurance Options

Basic Life

If your employee dies, we’ll pay the selected amount to your employee’s beneficiary or estate.

Your employees can designate one or more beneficiaries. Insurance money will be paid to that person(s) if your employee dies. If they don’t designate a beneficiary, or if no beneficiary is alive at the time of their death, the payment will be made to the employee’s estate.
Coverage continues up to age 71. The amount of life insurance reduces by 50% at age 65.

How will it benefit my employees?

Your employees’ loved ones will receive a life insurance payment. They can use this money for whatever purpose they wish.

Accidental death and dismemberment (Mandatory)

Pays an amount equal to your life insurance cover in the event of an employee or dependent dies, loses a limb, use of a limb, or loses their sight, speech or hearing, when caused by an accident.

How does it work?
Employees and their dependents (a spouse or children) are covered anytime, anywhere – whether at work, at home or on vacation.
Coverage continues for as long as the employee’s benefits are in effect, up to age 71. The amount of insurance reduces by 50 % at age 65.

How will it benefit my employees?
If an employee or their dependant dies or is permanently injured due to an accident, accidental death and dismemberment provide financial compensation.

Your coverage amount for accidental death and dismemberment will be the same as the amount you chose for basic life insurance.

Dependant Life (Optional)

If your employee’s spouse or dependent child dies of any cause, dependent life insurance provides coverage intended to help cover funeral costs.

How does it work?
Your employee will be the beneficiary for a lump sum payment in the event of their dependant’s death.
How will it benefit my employees?
Your employees will receive an amount of money if their dependant dies. This can be used to help with final expenses.

Critical Illness (Optional)

Provides a lump sum payment if an employee has a heart attack, stroke, coronary artery bypass surgery, or cancer (some exclusions apply to cancer based on severity and diagnosis).

How does it work?
The non-taxable lump sum is paid following a 30-day survival period after the diagnosis of a covered critical illness. For paralysis or loss of independent existence the lump sum is paid after 90 days.
How will it benefit my employees?
Critical illness insurance can help provide financial support during difficult times, allowing employees to focus on their health.

Short Term Disability (Optional)

This option replaces the income of your employee for the first 16 weeks if they cannot work due to injury or illness.

What is it?
Help secure the income of your employees income in case of injury or illness. This 24-hour protection usually covers between 50% and 70% of an employee's salary. You will choose the level of coverage. This coverage lasts for the first 16 weeks of disability. The employee only pays income tax while on disability if the employer had paid the premium for this benefit. If the employee pays for this, the benefit is tax-free.

Long Term Disability (Optional)

This option replaces the income of your employee for the long-term if they cannot work due to injury or illness.

What is it?
Help secure the income of your employees income if they are off work for the long-term. This 24-hour protection usually covers between 50% and 66.67% of an employee’s salary. You will choose the level of coverage. This coverage starts after an employee has been disabled for 16 consecutive weeks, and lasts for 2 years, 5 years, or until age 65. You will choose how long this coverage pays. The employee only pays income tax while on disability if the employer pays the premium. If the employee pays for this, the benefit is tax-free.

Health Options

Prescription Drugs

Provides comprehensive coverage for many prescription drugs.

How does it work?
Employees will be covered for many prescription drugs prescribed by a doctor. Employees can search for drugs online to see if they’re covered. Then they can present their drug card when they’re getting their prescription filled—no need to complete claim forms.
How will it benefit my employees?
Costs for many prescription drugs will be covered by the plan.

Health Options

Health

Covers many services not covered by a provincial health care plan, such as massage, chiropractic, physiotherapy, psychology/social work, speech therapy, osteopathy, podiatry, acupuncture and dieticians.

How does it work?
Employees can visit licensed practitioners, then submit claims online and be reimbursed by direct deposit. Health coverage also includes emergency care while travelling outside of Canada, hospital accommodation and many other benefits including accidental dental coverage if your plan does not include dental insurance.
How will it benefit my employees?
Your employees will be reimbursed for a variety of medical expenses, helping free up their finances for the things that matter most.

Health Options

Vision (Optional)

Provides coverage for items like eye exams, glasses, contact lenses and frames.

How does it work?
For eye exams, coverage is provided in provinces where the provincial plan does not provide full coverage. Eye exams are typically covered once every 24 months with no specific dollar maximum. Benefits for eye exams do not apply towards the maximum for eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Prescription sunglasses, safety glasses, and laser eye surgery are also covered when provided by a licensed ophthalmologist, optometrist, or optician.
How will it benefit my employees?
Vision care benefits help to offset the costs of glasses, contacts, and eye exams.

Choose your coverage

Basic & Routine Dental Services

Provides coverage for basic dental maintenance to promote good oral health.

How does it work?

Employees will be covered for necessary dental services up to the plan maximum. Routine coverage includes (but is not limited to) dental check-ups every 9 months, fillings, denture repairs and maintenance, and coverage for dental services required after an accident.

How will it benefit my employees?

Part of good oral hygiene involves routine dental check-ups. This optional benefit can help ensure the costs of those visits to the dentist are covered.
Note: If you choose basic dental benefits you’ll also be offered the option to add major dental coverage.

Major Dental

Provides coverage for major treatment to repair teeth. This supplemental benefit is only available if you choose basic dental insurance.

How does it work?
Major dental provides coverage for bridges, dentures, crowns, onlays and other restorative expenses. Major dental offers 50% coinsurance so that the plan and employee pay equally toward these services.

How will it benefit my employees?
Major dental supplements routine coverage by offering employees additional services to repair their teeth.

Dental Basic is required to enable Major Dental Option

Orthodontics

Provides coverage for major treatment to repair teeth. This supplemental benefit is only available if you choose basic dental insurance.
